The subject, a Mayflower, is recognizable yet reduced to line, shape, and shadow—its scale exaggerated, its context abstracted.&nbsp;The sculpture rests quietly on the brick wall by Anthropologie. Its surface shifts throughout the day, catching sunlight, echoing passing clouds, inviting momentary stillness. About the Artist Donald LongleyDonald Longley is a veteran metal artist with over 20 years of experience creating large-scale outdoor sculptures from reclaimed steel and other salvaged materials. His work blends craftsmanship, creativity, and a deep respect for nature, resulting in site-specific pieces that engage communities and spark conversation. Based in Belchertown, MA, Longley has permanent installations across Massachusetts and Connecticut, including works in town commons, cultural centers, and public parks. The compelling shape of the sculpture is an abstraction of our own DNA. When this organic, double helical, shape is paired with the materials used to make it (i.e. steel, cement, and plaster,) it creates a thought provoking contrast between the natural world and the man made materials within it. In a broader context this piece serves as a meaningful convergence between the outdoor walking pathways and the indoor shopping areas. About the Artist&nbsp; Conary Howard-Rogers is a Maine-based artist whose large-scale sculptures are inspired by a fascination with the natural world. His work bridges the gap between science and art, utilizing scientific discovery and replication to explore underlying patterns in nature. By incorporating scientific concepts, Howard-Rogers creates pieces that are intellectually engaging.
